This program teaches skills to help political conservatives, independents, and liberals/progressives to come together, listen to one another, develop mutual understanding, and work collaboratively to resolve our national public policy issues.   


Americans are bitterly polarized over politics, the wearing of masks, gun rights, abortion rights, and a host of other issues.


Yet, I know that when Americans work together, anything is possible.  I have seen this happen in the construction industry, where I have facilitated project management team-building sessions, called  Partnering Sessions, for more than twenty years.


Partnering brings together all the major players in a construction project, such as the owner, architect, engineers, prime contractor, and subcontractors, and helps them become an effective project team committed to building a quality project on schedule and on a budget in an atmosphere of teamwork and trust.


I have facilitated Partnering Sessions in every region of our country and worked with men and women of every race, religion, creed, color national origin, and ethnic background.


Partnering works.  I have facilitated Partnering Sessions for construction project teams that have built facilities for the U. S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Navy, and Marine Corps that keep our nation strong and free. 


 Working in the transportation sector, I have facilitated Partnering Sessions for construction project teams that have built roads, bridges, highways, transit systems, and railroad facilities for state highway departments, regional transit agencies, and national railroads that keep our people and our commerce moving.


Partnering builds successful project teams in the construction industry.  We, Americans, know Team, and we love Team.  From little league to the NFL, the NBA, and the WNBA, we love our Teams!


So, I’m inviting my fellow Americans to become Citizen Teams with the skills to come together, listen to one another, develop mutual understanding, and work collaboratively to resolve our public policy issues.


It is important that individual American citizens learn these skills because our Constitution provides that the sovereignty of our nation resides in the American people, not in politicians or in elected political leaders.


The Preamble to our Constitution makes this clear: "We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”


Polarized as our politics appear to be, we have survived greater internal divisions than the present time.  President Abraham Lincoln gave his First Inaugural Address on March 15, 1861, on the eve of the Civil War.



"I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."

In my experience each one of us has that “better angels of our nature” within us, and the strength of our nation lies in the quality of the relationships among our people.
